Onboarding Assistant Starter Kit

First impressions decide retention, and most of them are decided by a question nobody answered. This template puts your setup docs behind a conversation: a new user asks about the step they are stuck on and gets it, in their own language, with a link to the exact page. It answers rather than tracking progress, which is why it works on day one instead of after an integration project.

What's Included

Everything you need to get started, pre-configured and ready to customize.

  • Welcome greeting and starter questions you write yourself
  • Setup questions answered step by step from your own docs
  • Getting-started FAQ answered in the user's language
  • A proactive opener that invites a stuck user to ask
  • Links into your product dropped straight into the answer
  • Handoff to support with the whole thread when someone is stuck

Mobile and web app developers who need to walk new users through features, permissions, and setup without relying on static tooltip tours.

Platform Builders

Marketplace and platform operators who onboard both supply-side and demand-side users with different flows and setup requirements.

How to Customize

Adapt this template to your business in four simple steps.

1

Write the Steps Down

Put your setup path into the knowledge base as content: account setup, first feature, integration, inviting the team. The agent walks a user through whichever step they ask about, in their own language.

2

Add Your Feature Docs and Links

Upload or crawl the pages that explain each feature. The agent answers from them and can point the user at the exact page instead of describing it.

3

Set the Proactive Greeting

Choose the opener the agent shows before anyone types, and the starter questions under it. That is the nudge that ships: it invites a stuck user to ask, rather than tracking what they have left undone.

4

Add Getting-Started FAQ

Upload your most common new-user questions and answers. Then read the knowledge-gap report after a few weeks: it lists what new users asked that your docs never covered.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the bot know where a user is in onboarding?
It does not track their progress, and it is worth knowing that before you plan around it. The agent knows what the user tells it and what is in your documentation, so it is excellent at "how do I connect X" and it will not proactively chase someone who skipped step three. Product-tour tools own that job; this one owns answering.
Can the bot show different flows for different user types?
Not from a single agent. What works instead is asking: the user says they are an admin setting up SSO and the answer suits that. For genuinely separate content and behaviour, run an agent per audience, which higher plans allow.
Does it integrate with product analytics tools?
No, and nothing here reacts to in-product events. The agent is reached when the user opens the chat, on your site or in your app. If you want it to appear at a particular moment, place the widget on that page and set a proactive greeting there.
Will it keep messaging users after they complete onboarding?
It never messages first on its own. The same agent simply keeps answering, and as your product grows you add the new docs to its knowledge base. Anything genuinely outbound is a separate, deliberate campaign to people who opted in.
